The Institution

GREY’S TYPING & COMPUTER SERVICES formerly known as GREY’S TYPING SCHOOL commenced its operation on 1st July, 1987 at Richmond Hill in the parish of St. George’s.  Five years later the school had moved to downstairs of the New Testament Church located on Lucas Street. Due to the passing of Hurricane Ivan in 2004, the building was destroyed; and the school has been ever since relocated further down Lucas Street.

Previously, the school had embarked on only training persons in the area of typewriting at the elementary, Intermediate and Advance Levels.  

Grey’s Typing & Computer Service commitment and dedication to the development of education in Grenada enabled our participants to be recognized in 1994, 1995 and 2006 Typewriting examination and was awarded Gold and Silver Medals from Incorporated Phonographic Society (IPS) for their outstanding performance. In 2007, the institution was awarded a Certificate of Accomplishment in Recognition of twenty years of excellent service to the advancement and development of the human resource capacity of the country;

The institution has built a solid reputation of student’s success and has contributed to the work skills improvement of many persons in Grenada. The institution has achieved many awards and has obtained local and International recognition for its invaluable contribution to the educational landscape in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

With the introduction of the computer era, the Institution had to be more current in the delivery of training, and therefore was involved in training persons in computer literacy. Our vision is to develop informational literacy skills through technology and to provide skill proficiencies necessary for the emerging of the technological workforce.

In 2010 the Institution obtained Certification of Registration as an Educational Institution through the Ministry of Education (Grenada).  Also in 2010-2011 the institution went through training with the National Training Agency in the areas of Internal and External Verification, Assessor, Audit and Competency Base Education Instructor Training (CBET); All our instructors received the CBET training.

From the period September 2011 – July 2013 the Institution had trained 240 persons in the areas of Life Skills, General Office Administration Level 1 and Data Operations level 1 & 2 under the OECS Skills for Inclusive Growth Project sponsored by the World Bank; of whom many of our trainees today have gained permanent employment in the Grenadian workforce.

In 2012 the institution was the first centre in Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique to be approved and certified in the areas of General Office Administration and Data Operation through the Grenada National Training Agency. 

Presently, the institution has adopted the National Training Agency Standards whereby candidates are certified in different skills areas. The institution is now approved in other Level 2 and areas such as Customer Service, Printing & Graphics, Accounting Clerk, Custom Service, Event Management, and also Administrative Assistant and Massage Therapy Level 3.

Milestones
